2025 Departmental Results
In 2025, members of the Criminal Inves ga on Bureau successfully managed 514 case
assignments. Our clearance rate was 49%. Due to crime analysis and thorough inves ga ons,
our clearance rate was higher than the na onal average. Proac ve measures helped contribute
to Part 1 crimes being reduced to 227, the lowest number since the department began
standardized crime reporting.
Superior Response & Service Delivery
The Inves ga on Bureau and Uniform Bureau worked collabora vely to recover a missing, at-risk
4-year-old girl from Indiana. U lizing surveillance, undercover vehicles for rolling surveillance
(tails), and cell phone pings, an arrest was made, gun recovered, and child was re-united with
her mother.
A detec ve iden fied a fraud suspect through facial recogni on and networking with local
police departments. Suspect has been involved with a regionalized crime spree where he was
defrauding elderly individuals. Our vic m had $44,000 stolen, and an arrest was made within
this case.
Detec ves iden fied a suspect who robbed a female at gun point near Cheshire and Larchmere
Blvd., and who shot an elderly female in South Euclid. On November 21, 2025, a search warrant
was executed in East Cleveland by the Shaker Heights Inves ga on Unit, South Euclid
Inves ga on Unit, Adult Parole Authority (APA), and EDGE SWAT. An arrest was made with this
case, and the suspect is currently in jail for parole viola ons awai ng charges.
On January 31, 2023, officers found a deceased female, later confirmed to be Maria Valenzuela.
Through an inves ga on, the ex-boyfriend Chris an Warner was iden fied as the suspect and
arrested for murder. The trial has been delayed several mes due to Warner’s claiming insanity
and the proceeding competency hearings. In 2025 a er consulta on with the family and
Detec ve Ishler, the Prosecutor’s Office has agreed to a plea of 25-35 years in prison.
