Traffic Enforcement Unit
At full strength, the Traffic Enforcement Unit is staffed by three officers responsible for
citywide traffic safety enforcement. The unit responds to neighborhood-specific traffic
concerns. In 2025, one officer was assigned to the traffic enforcement unit.
2025 Departmental Results
In 2025, the Uniform Patrol Bureau achieved significant outcomes that reflect its commitment
to superior service delivery, professional development, and strong community partnerships.
Superior Response & Service Delivery
Officers demonstrated exceptional professionalism and effectiveness in critical incidents.
Notably, a suspect involved in a tragic shooting at Shaker Heights Public Library was
apprehended within minutes of the initial call. In another incident, officers successfully
de-escalated a situation involving an individual firing a weapon in a residential yard, taking the
suspect into custody without injury.
Advanced investigative techniques including DNA collection from recovered stolen vehicles and
the strategic deployment of K-9 and drone resources led to the identification and arrest of
multiple suspects. The effective use of FLOCK technology also resulted in the apprehension of a
suspect wanted for multiple felonies including felonious assaults and homicide.

Human Capital & Talent
The Bureau prioritized professional growth and leadership development throughout the year.
Promotions included one Lieutenant to Commander and three Patrol Officers to Sergeant.
Several officers also successfully performed duties at higher ranks, demonstrating leadership
readiness.
Officers and command staff pursued advanced training and certifications, including Internal
Affairs, Jail Administration, and the Certified Law Enforcement Executive (CLEE) program. One
Lieutenant began the Northwestern University Staff & Command program and a master’s
degree at Case Western Reserve University. Additional advancements included the certification
of two new canine handlers and the appointment of an officer to the regional EDGE Accident
Investigation Team.
